Making new things happen at the South Holland Centre
Youth Takeover is a group of young people who meet up regularly at the Centre to plan stuff they would like to see going on here and in the arts locally. And they are always coming up with great ideas!
Some of the things the group tell us they enjoy are “being listened to”, “getting to know other young creative people locally and across the county”, and “gaining skills and experience in things like event management, marketing, and arts programming”.
In the past couple of years YT at SHC have run monthly music cafes, organised an outdoor mini-festival, created some brand new music alongside a well-known orchestra, and had opportunities to join trips to the Edinburgh Fringe and other national arts events and venues.
There are loads of opportunities to use your own creative ideas to make things happen.
The group meet at 4.30pm on Wednesdays. If you want to get involved or have any great ideas you would like to share, come and join us!
Youth Takeover’s next big project is a Shakespeare Mini-Festival:
We are seeking young people to help us create a mini-festival inspired by Shakespeare - as part of a project called ’Emerge’. You will work alongside professional artists Mythm to develop your ideas as a team, meeting weekly between September 2017 and April 2018.
Roles for artists, performers, event managers, publicity officers and technical support. You will also have a chance to gain an Arts Award.
The Emerge project group meet weekly on Wednesdays, 4.30pm - 6pm, excluding school holidays.
