South Holland Centre is acting as the Ticket Agency for The RSPB Wash Birdwatching Cruises aboard the Boston Belle, departing from Boston Marina.

**This trip has been cancelled. We will be calling ticket holders in due course to discuss refund options . We are working through events in date order so please bear with us.

THE WASH is the UK’s most important estuary for wildlife. The coastline has some of the best saltmarsh and mudflats in the country supporting thousands of wildfowl and waders on their migration. On these cruises you will see habitats from the seaward side and get up close to the birds.  In 2019 we saw over 108 species – around 64 per cruise. Sightings of waders include ringed plover, turnstone, dunlin, knot, redshank, black-tailed and bar-tailed godwit, as well as little egret, eider, marsh harrier, peregrine, terns, common buzzard, gannet and kingfisher. Seals are seen on most cruises, hauled out on the exposed mud banks. The cruises provide interest to all; from the avid birder to anyone with a general interest in nature. Each cruise is led by local guides to help with bird identification and point out placesof local historical interest.  There has not been a single case of sea-sickness so far!

THE CRUISE lasts 4.5 to 5 hours.  Boarding is at Sluice Bridge on the River Witham Boston. After negotiating the lock, the boat travels down river to the mouth of the Witham and out into The Wash for a mile or so. The journey continues along the River Welland with views over the saltmarsh bordering the RSPB Frampton Marsh reserve, before returning to Boston.

CRUISE DATES AND DEPARTURE TIMES: The date of this cruise is shown above or you can see the full list of cruises here. Please arrive at least 45 minutes before the stated departure time, which is governed by the tide. Departure times may vary by a few minutes due to the weather and tide conditions on the day. Unfortunately the boat is unable to wait for latecomers. We advise you to allow plenty of time to reach the departure point as traffic on the approach roads into Boston can be heavy.

MEETING POINT is at Boston Marina, outside the Lock Keeper’s Office on Witham Bank East in Boston. This is less than 50 metres from where Fydell Street (A1137) and the railway both cross the River Witham at the Sluice Bridge. The Marina post code is PE21 9JU.  There is a long stay car park 5 minutes walk from the Marina at Tunnard Street, PE21 6PL.

THE BOAT is well equipped with seating outside and in the lounge and is fully equipped with all the necessary safety equipment. Refreshments are available from the galley, including hot and cold drinks, freshly made sandwiches and snacks. The boat owner would prefer that you do not bring your own refreshments on board unless you have special dietary requirements. There is a toilet on board which is accessed down a few steep steps.  There is no smoking allowed anywhere on board.

ACCESSIBILTY: Unfortunately the boat is not suitable for people with severe mobility issues. If you are unsure about the suitability of the cruise for you or a third party, please call one of the general enquiries (non-booking) lines on 07904 921910/01205 369375/01205 722880.  Please note: bookings can only be made by visiting or telephoning the South Holland Centre, PE11 1SS, 01775 764777 or online.

CLOTHING: Please wear appropriate clothing for the trip – even on warm sunny days the weather may change.

REFUNDS will be made in full if a booking is cancelled more than 28 days before a cruise. This is on the condition that the tickets are able to be resold by the ticket agency (South Holland Centre). No refunds are available for cancellations made by the customer within 28 days of the cruise date.

CRUISE CANCELLATIONS In the event that the RSPB Local Group must cancel a cruise due to unforeseen circumstances , all customers will have the option of re-booking on another date, subject to availability, or a full refund. Cruises can occasionally be cancelled at short notice due to adverse weather or tidal conditions. In this unlikely event, you will be called on a contact number given to the booking agency, the South Holland Centre, at the time of booking. Wherever possible, please leave a mobile telephone number at the time of booking and bring the phone with you on your journey to the embarkation point. Thank you.
